Apple held its highly anticipated iPhone 13 event (aka “California Streaming”) on September 14, 2021. Did you miss it? Read on for the latest product highlights!
New iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Mini
Front and center are the new iPhone 13 models. Apple’s new iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Mini come in five different colors: pink, blue, midnight, starlight, and (PRODUCT)RED. Compared to previous models, the controversial notch is just a bit smaller in width (about 20%). The iPhone 13’s screen size, measured diagonally, is 6.06 inches; the Mini coming in at 5.42 inches. The body, however, is the same as the iPhone 12.
Battery life always being a hot topic, Apple claims the iPhone 13 provides up to 2.5 more hours a day versus the iPhone 12; the 13 Mini adding up to 1.5 hours over the 12 Mini.
A15 Bionic CPU – Firing on 15 Billion Transistors
As for processing speed, power, and efficiency — all iPhone 13 models come with the A15 Bionic, pushing graphics and AI abilities to new heights. Apple’s official press release noted the “new 6-core CPU with two high-performance cores and four high-efficiency cores is up to 50 percent faster than the competition, the fastest in any smartphone…”. Compared to the A14, the predecessor, the A15 has 3.2 billion more transistors for a total of 15 billion. That said, Apple continues to hold the title for having the fastest smartphones.
Lights, Camera, Action!
The iPhone 13’s camera has also improved. The new Wide camera has the largest sensor ever in an iPhone dual-camera system and can gather 47 percent more light for less noise and brighter results. No doubt end users will be pleased with taking pictures and videos with these upgrades.
Also mentioned were more bands for 5G, thus providing greater coverage and performance for “shared experiences” and sharing content over networks. For all the details, be sure to check out the full release on Apple’s site found here!

iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max
As one would expect, the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max models pack more oomph under the hood and have a slightly different look. For starters, they come in four different colors: graphite, gold, silver, and sierra blue. Still present is the metal band around the edge and matte back.
A key difference in the A15 Bionic chip when compared to the 13 and 13 Mini models, the GPU has an extra core totaling five cores that grant up to 50% better performance when stacked against the competition.
Another major standout is the camera system. The Wide camera has 1.9 µm pixels making it the biggest ever on iPhone and offers “a massive improvement in low-light situations, up to 2.2x when compared to iPhone 12 Pro, and nearly 1.5x when compared to iPhone 12 Pro Max.”
